Also known as the golden fibre in India, jute is considered an extremely strong, sustainable, and environmentally friendly material. The jute fibre is derived from the stem and ribbon, the outer skin, of the jute plant. The fibres are first extracted by a process known as retting which requires bundling the stems together and immersing them in slow running water. After retting, the non-fibrous material is scraped off and crucial fibres are pulled out from the jute stem and subsequently cut and stitched to give the desired effect.
Working with the material and crafting jute products requires both expertise in the extensive preparation process as well as knowledge about design, something all our skilled artisans have. So have a look at the preselected products in our collection and pick your new favorite.
